Program Description | The multidisciplinary field of pharmaceutical sciences has seen rapid advances that are critical to the discovery and development of drugs for chronic diseases, such as cancer and diabetes, and emerging threats, such as new pathogens and drug resistance. Such conceptual and methodological progress can be difficult to keep up with, even for those already working in the field at the bachelor's level. To position students for career advancement in this rapidly evolving field, we offer five specialty tracks that help develop leaders in each area. This degree gives students the opportunity to train in the latest advances in pharmaceutical sciences, with approaches and techniques necessary for the development of new drugs, from small molecules and peptides to nucleic acid-based drugs and large, biotechnology-derived molecules. While completing a 9-credit hour core curriculum, including Fundamentals in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Applied Statistics, and Ethical Issues, you can tailor your training program with at least 21 credit hours of work in one of five specialty tracks based on your career interests: Cannabis Science & Medicine Clinical Pharmacokinetics & Pharmacodynamics Drug Discovery Molecular & Systems Toxicology Pharmaceutical Biotechnology & Drug Delivery Three of the specialty tracks are offered with an online option (Cannabis Science & Medicine, Clinical Pharmacokinetics & Pharmacodynamics, and Drug Discovery), while Pharmaceutical Biotechnology & Drug Delivery and Molecular & Systems Toxicology are on-campus only. To accommodate both remote students and others working full-time jobs, the CU Skaggs MSPS program offers a non-thesis option as an alternative to the research thesis option for on-campus students. |
