The practicum has two principal components: a regulatory project performed within an organization and documentation of the project. Mentored by a preceptor, the project component of the BRAMS practicum involves gaining experience with real-world regulatory activities and expanding a student’s skill set to meet student-defined learning objectives. The documentation component allows course faculty oversight of the student’s project to assure that practicum expectations are met.

Launched in 2009, the UW Master of Science in Biomedical Regulatory Affairs, or BRAMS, was developed to help professionals advance or enter the regulatory affairs and clinical trials field. The program gives you the management skills to take a medical product — drug, device or biologic — from research and development to market and post-market. Included in our curriculum is planning and conducting clinical trials, international regulations, product testing & postmarketing, technical communication, and the business of clinical trials. A centerpiece of our program is a practicum, where you receive real world experience. BRAMS also has two affiliated Certificate Programs, i.e., in Biomedical Regulatory Affairs and in Clinical Trials.

Our graduates have a wealth of career opportunities. They go on to regulatory affairs positions at a variety of successful companies and organizations. The curriculum also prepares graduates to pursue professional certifications, including those from the Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society and the Association of Clinical Research Professionals.

The Master of Science in Biomedical Regulatory Affairs program is offered by the UW School of Pharmacy, a recognized leader in pharmacy education, scholarship and research. In a 2020 survey by U.S. News and World Report, the school ranked 7th among U.S. graduate schools of pharmacy.

A self-sustaining, fee-based program, the Master of Science in Biomedical Regulatory Affairs is administered in partnership with UW Continuum College.
